Why runners switch to elastic laces

Elastic running laces do two things a knotted lace can't: they never come undone mid-run, and they give with your foot instead of digging in as it swells over the miles. Set the tension once and every run after that is a slip-on. Triathletes use Quick Lock for transition speed. Runners who want their shoes to look normal use the flat elastic lace and tie it once. Trail runners and hikers use the round lace in shoes with round eyelets. All three are speed laces in the sense that matters: you stop touching your shoes.

Sizing running shoes

Most adult running shoes take 40 to 47 inches: six eyelets, 40 or 45; seven eyelets, 45 or 47. Quick Lock is one size and trims to fit. For a runner's loop through the top eyelet, size up one length. See Sizing Help.

Questions we get

Elastic laces or lock laces, which is better for running?

Lock laces are a cord and a plastic lock on top of the foot. Stretchlace flat and round laces look like real laces and tie once. Quick Lock gives you the lock without the cord look. The full comparison is in elastic vs lock laces.

Will they loosen up mid-run?

No. The tension you set holds through the stride, and the bow stays tied when the fit is right: bow and ends on top of the foot, not touching the ground. Fit tips in the install and fit FAQ. And if a bow ever does work loose, which we don't expect, snap a knot bow clip over it and it stays tied for good.

Can I still do a runner's loop or heel lock?

Yes. Lace it the same way. Because the loop uses more lace, go up one length from your original. Check the length chart.

What length do running shoes take?

Most adult running shoes take 40 to 47 inches. Measure one of the laces in the shoe and match it, or use the size guide. Quick Lock is one size and trims to fit, see the Quick Lock install guide.
